As formal accreditation on second and subsequent cycles is not completed until some time after the previous accreditation's expiry date, it may appear that an organisation's accreditation has lapsed. In the QIC program, the organisation's external review is completed before the prior accreditation's expiry date and the later accreditation is deemed to have commenced on the last day of the external review ie. it is made retrospective to the review date. Hence apparently lapsed organisations may be in the process of re-accreditation.
